I don't know the movie but am now sold. I love Mamet and Hackman. And also your word history of "caper." And also the bit about realistic dialogue at the end. I enjoyed the whole piece.

Thank you so much! You’ll grin from ear to ear when you see it. I left out 10 other great lines I could’ve included.

An underrated jewel of a movie. Mamet writes like Tarantino’s smarter, cooler, older brother. Thanks for the review.

Thank you! Yes, Mamet has a number of underrated movies: Spartan, State and Main, and especially Homicide.

Spartan is one of my all time favorites

Is Den of Thieves a caper movie?

Haven’t seen it, so I can’t say.

So, it’s a wanna be Heat. I wonder if caper is specific to something. And the broader crime movie like Heat is another thing.

I love Heat, but wouldn’t call it a caper; the guys all have their roles and jobs, but capers are more elegant, at least in books and movies. The gang in Heat is more like the guys in Reservoir Dogs than the guys in Heist.
