In January 2020, a friend of mine and I began the podcast Fifteen-Minute Film Fanatics. You can read more about it in this post. It found an audience and is now heard around the world. Incredible!
In July 2022, I began reading books and interviewing their authors for the New Books Network. I read mostly books about film, but also ones about the American West, literature, and music. Almost every interview I did was exhilarating: what a thrill to read a book of my own choosing and then speak at length to its author! It was a reader’s dream-come-true. I spoke to writers as renowned as Ted Conover, William J. Mann, Stephen Galloway, and Scott Eyman as well as others publishing their interesting work with university presses. I also ended up as a juror for the Hollywood Reporter’s 100-Greatest-Film-Books of All Time.
Now, Fifteen-Minute Film Fanatics has released over 200 episodes and shows no sign of slowing down and I’ve recorded over 40 interviews with the New Books Network, always with more on my schedule. Pages and Frames will combine my enthusiasm for books, films, and the people who make them. In addition to essays about books, films, and the cultural scene, I will also be releasing pieces (both audio and written) in which an author and I discuss a film related in some way to the author’s work.
Imagine a Venn diagram with an author in one circle and a film in the other: Pages and Frames will take place in the shaded area where they overlap.
More to come! Stay in touch and let me know what I should be watching and reading.
