The first time I watched this movie was after reading about it in an email blast from…Louis CK.

I will have to rewatch it. It was certainly atypical (in a great way) for the genre as you describe.

There is no way I would see this movie. It sounds terrifying.

It is—that one scene mentioned in the post is rough.

I met Tony Curtis once. . I was about seven years old and I was coming out of school and I was told he was in our shop. I don’t know what I’d seen him in, but I was very excited and I rushed around the corner into the shop. I saw a man standing there and I said are you Coney Turtis? He said I think he’s around here somewhere.

I thought he was great in Some like it hot. I didn’t know people disparaged him. I can remember seeing Spartacus as a child but mainly, I remember my father complaining about the Spartacus actor mumbling.

“ I think he’s around here somewhere”—excellent! Yes, he’s great in SLIH and in this one, too.

Okay, clearly you're writing about ME up there. He is IMPOSSIBLE to take seriously. He is only good in semi-serious or truly comic roles (or Sweet Smell of Success, the exception that proves the rule) or winking BS like his recurring turn as the Vegas honcho on the Robert Urich series Vegas. That said, I am willing to trust you on this - and will put The Boston Strangler on the list. Sounds like DePalma may have been a fan.

He is impossible in Spartacus and some others for sure—but yes, he’s terrific in Sweet Smell of Success. (I always thought Spartacus had bigger problems than Tony Curtis, anyway.) I forgot about Vega$! Sweet Smell, Some Like it Hot, and BS are three highs in a long, long career. Give it a look.

BTW, I finally got around to listening to The Plot Thickens—enjoyed hearing you talk about JLM!
